SLU Graduates 332 at Maiden Convocation

Sule Lamido University, SLU Graduates a total of 332 Graduands, 14 Bags First Class During Maiden / First Convocation Ceremony 2018.

Sule Lamido University Kafin-Hausa, Jigawa State graduated a total of 332 graduands, out of which 14 got First Class, 178 had Second Class Upper divisions, 136 graduated with Second Class Lower division while only four took Pass degrees.

Disclosing this at the Maiden Convocation Ceremony of the university, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu FCVSN, MNIM said the university’s pioneer graduates, comprised 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 sets, who were admitted through Direct Entry (DE) and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination ( UTM E ) , respectively.

The pioneer vice-chancellor revealed that the university was conceived to be ICT-driven and entrepreneurial in orientation, through a four phased five year development with three schools, 20 Faculties, 59 Academic Departments and 261 programmes across the levels.

Professor Ribadu said the university had three Faculties: Education, Humanities and Natural & Applied Sciences; Two schools: School of General and Entrepreneurship Studies ( SGES ) a n d School of Preliminary Studies (SPS) and nine Departments running 15 programmes.

Professor Ribadu also acknowledged the role of the National Universities Commission (NUC), under the excellent leadership of Professor Abubakar Adamu Rashid, mni, MFR, FNAL, FPSN, for maintaining standards.

He said that different panels on Accreditation visited SLU to ascertain its conformity with minimum academic standards set out to gauge the quality of academic programmes in all Nigerian universities. In compliance with that, SLU presented fifteen (15) programmes, out of that number, thirteen (13) programmes were granted FULL accreditation status while only two were granted interim, he stated.

On the graduates, he advised them that “Life after graduation marks a new dawn on your lives that will definitely affects your plans and your future. Flying through the turbulence of life has never been easy especially since everyone is aiming for the sky.

Professor Ahmad advised the graduands to make a difference not only on their immediate environment but also in Nigeria and beyond. He said the graduands were trained to be critical thinkers and to be innovative and must strive to use the knowledge acquired to change the world around them for the better. He reminded them that ''the certificates you are going to be conferred with go with the name and reputation of this great university. I, therefore, urge you to protect this name and reputation by being good ambassadors of your university wherever you find yourselves.

The Convocation was attended by the former visitor and Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido who established the university and on whose honour the university was named after him, who also represented the Chancellor, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo; several Vice Chancellors, staff and students as well as well-wishers and friends of the graduands. The Executive Secretary, NUC, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, was represented at the convocation by the Deputy Director, Information, Mallam Haruna Lawal Ajo.
