JAMB Speaks on Extension of 2019 Registration Deadline for UTME/DE

JAMB Rules Out Possibility of UTME/DE Deadline Extension 2019/2020

Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB Discloses that they Might Not Extend the Registration Deadline / Closing Date of the Ongoing UTME and Direct Entry Exercise for 2019/2020.

Latest Update: The Joint Admission Matriculation Board, JAMB has opened the registration portal effective from Wednesday 13th March, for all candidates with either UTME or DE ePINS to complete their registration formalities.

The portal would be closed on Friday, 15th March 2019 by midnight.

Candidates who had created a profile and procured UTME or DE ePINS before the close of registration are to use this opportunity to register before Friday midnight.

The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dr. Emmanuel Ndukwe, has ruled out the possibility of extending the ongoing UTME registration exercise.

He also commended the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, for his many monumental achievements particularly the complete automation of the Board' s assessment processes.

Dr. Ndukwe made this statement in Lagos on Friday, 8th February, 2019 after a guided tour of some ComputerBased Test (CBT) centres to monitor the registration exercise.

The 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE) registration exercise had commenced on Thursday, 10th January, 2019 and is expected to end on Thursday, 21st February, 2019.

To ensure that Nigerians are not exploited or have their data mutilated as well as obtain actual statistics that would reflect the realities on ground, the Board had regulated the registration exercise with guiding rules and regulations that centres must not breach.

To match words with actions, the Chairman of the Board took an assessment tour of some centres among which are: Ha-ShemAcademy CBT centre, Federal College of Education (Technical) CBT centre, Akoka, Lagos and Electronic Test Company (ETC) CBT centre Lagos to ensure that the directives issued by the Board are fully complied with.

While fielding questions from newsmen on the possibility of extending the February deadline, the Chairman said, “I do not foresee an extension.

We have to stick to the date given to the public. If we start thinking about an extension, it does not portray our seriousness.

You can see that some of the places we visited had many systems but fewer candidates.

As such, candidates should be mindful of the terminal date. So, I do not foresee any extension in date for registration”.

He, however, stated that if there were cogent reasons for an extension, an approval would be sought by the management for such after the Board might have consulted widely.

The Chairman reiterated the determination of the Board to conduct a hitch-free examination that would make Nigerians proud.

He assured the stakeholders of the commitment of the Governing Board to providing purposeful leadership by supporting policies that would enable JAMB reach its zenith.

The Chairman called on all Nigerians to support the Board in its bid to reposition JAMB for enhanced service delivery.
