IAUE Senate Approves Final Year & 2nd Semester Results 2017/2018

Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, IAUE Senate Approves Final Year Students and Second Semester Examination Results for 2017/2018 Academic Session.

The 2017/2018 final year results as well as the 2017/2018 second semester results of undergraduate students presented to Senate by the various faculties on Wednesday February 27, 2019 received approval with more First Class and second class upper division topping the chart.

Reviewing the results so presented, the Chairman of Senate Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele expressed appreciation to Members of Senate for adhering strictly to the 120 minimum credit unit which he stated led to the production of the good results witnessed and which is a complete departure from what obtained in the past. The results can also be accessed anywhere by students.

Following an appeal for removal of CSC 423 ( Artificial Intelligence) by 2014 set of Computer Science students, Senate has approved that Dr. Patience Spencer of that department be reprimanded for failing to teach her students.

The students had written to senate complaining that 89 of them failed the test she administered through Computer Based Test (CBT) because she has not been coming to class to teach them.
When Senate demanded an explanation, Dr. Patience Spencer explained that apart from 5 students, the rest did not do their Continuous Assessment (CA) assignments and did not also attend classes.
Some Members of Senate who did not accept the explanation argued that it was impossible for 89 students to fail, adding that if she had taught them, that at least the 5 students she claimed attended classes would have passed.

The Chairman of Senate Professor Ozi-Mekuri Ndimele also pointed out that he has been told of her poor attitude towards teaching and in the department stressing that there is no way that she would have recorded 18 marks over 100 as the highest score in the CBT if she had done her job very well.
Senate at the end agreed to give 35 marks across board to all the 89 students.

Professor Ndimele informed Senate that the Computer Based Test was introduced to checkmate lecturers who just give marks without teaching their students and that it has betrayed a lot of them.
He cited a case in the Faculty of Business Studies where all the students passed the CBT because the course lecturer leaked the answers to the questions he set for his students.

The Vice-Chancellor advised lecturers to be alive to their responsibilities and directed the Dean of Postgraduate Programmes to be severe with defaulting lecturers as the school would not tolerate that.
He also advised those aspiring to become Professors to work towards obtaining 79 to 80 marks and not 70 so as to defend their promotion anytime and anywhere.

The meeting ended with a report on the Open Distance Learning programmes by Professor Kontein Trinya.
