Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, IAUE Vice Chancellor Appeals for Change of Name of University.

The Vice-Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt, Professor Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, has again appealed for change of the name of the university to facilitate the expansion of academic programmes in the institution.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, expanding academic offerings in the university would open up more admission and employment opportunities to Rivers people, but noted that such is being hampered.

He made this remark against the backdrop of the submission by Professor Kemka Ogbonda, who in his inaugural lecture, called for the establishment of a stand-alone department of Microbiology in the university.

The Vice-Chancellor, who noted that erudite scholars in the university were being caged by the name of the institution, regretted that the potentials of such lecturers would continue to be under maximized unless the law establishing it is reviewed.

While applauding the eloquent scholarship of Professor Ogbonda, the VC also informed the audience that arrangements were on to celebrate the founders’ day, hinted that the period would be used to showcase what the university is made of since its inception.

Earlier, the Registrar, Mrs Hope Kue-Ikoro, who remarked that an inaugural lecture was a time for a professor to prove his scholarly accomplishments, said that she was pleased with the level of proficiency exhibited by the inaugural lecturer.

She reassured that management would continue to provide the platform for lecturers in the university to demonstrate their competencies in order to compete well with their counterparts in the world, and appreciated the audience for coming.
